Helping Food Charity Organization Serve More People with Custom Portal
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food charity organization that works on ensuring that everyone who needs a healthy meal gets one. It serves an average of 450,000 people every month.
It was started in 1977 as The Food Bank, Inc. of Santa Clara County. However, the name was changed to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley in 2019. They have been working on hunger relief since 1977. The organization also promotes environmental protection.
Previously, the client had Salesforce to manage volunteer shifts and working hours as per their job profile. They required a WordPress portal where volunteers can register for individual or group shifts as per the availability and manage their hours themselves.
In addition, they wanted a feature that allows them to manage their volunteers' hours’ statuses as per their job and application agreement submitted during shift registration. An option to cancel the registration after its confirmation for a specific shift was also a requirement.
We customized the CRM and integrated our Salesforce WordPress Customer Portal with customizations tailored to their requirements.
For volunteers, we added a Volunteer Shift module that lets volunteers see all the upcoming shifts and register themselves for them. It allows them to see different types of upcoming shifts like site leader shifts, team leader shifts, health ambassador shifts, and promoters shifts. The shifts are displayed as per specific criteria. For example, date and time. If the shift date is passed, it won’t be displayed on the portal.
Another module is Shift Registration. Here, volunteers can register themselves for shifts. Hours and their status are auto-managed according to the volunteers' registration agreement.
With the Volunteer Hours feature, volunteers can see their working hours for specific shifts and download their hours' reports. They can even cancel their registration at any time using the cancel registration feature.
Volunteers can register and manage their shifts themselves without any staff member’s support. In addition, the auto calculation and management of volunteers' hours and shifts as per their agreement reduces the manual process. Overall, our Salesforce WordPress Customer Portal acts as a digital manager that helps them focus on serving the needy by simplifying internal operations digitally.
